This painting lucidly presents the hypocritical nature of man. On one hand we sermonize to other and tell them to be democratic but in our own sphere and needs, we all prefer to be autocratic in our demeanor. This simple but dangerous nature of man is allegorically expressed through the imagery of the tiger- the tiger always looks for his own benefit and would hunt his prey without flinching. The case is similar with the human being- when his own need arises he forgets the principle of democracy and tends to be autocratic in nature.
